Hi, I'm Jen, founder of March and Bloom
I'm a graphic designer who listens first, sketches second
(or maybe at the same time – I’m always noodling and doodling!)
Founded in 2018, March and Bloom builds brands that grow with you – instantly recognisable, created with empathy and thoughtfully, obsessively designed to become your biggest business asset. My work sits where strategy meets gut instinct, crafting brands that are consciously different – and built for where you're going next.
But let me back up a bit.
enough said! I’m ready to hire you right now. →
Design nerd since day one
My design obsession began at 15 (yes, I was that teenager hanging out in the high-school art studio and doing calligraphy for fun on weekends) and was then formalised through a university degree in communications design.
From there, I did what all art-school grads do: I moved to New York, obviously. I cut my teeth working for some pretty incredible brands – hello L'Oreal, Kimberly-Clarke and Moet Hennessy – before swapping NYC for London 11 years later (blame my husband for that) where I've been happily settled – and running March and Bloom, for many years.
You should know: Typography makes my heart sing. I can spend embarrassing amounts of time agonising over spacing. And yes, I am a creative with a serious sense of nostalgia and love of paper goods. When you put those traits together, you get many piles and drawers and cubbies filled with "things I don't want to throw away." It's a problem. I know. But a very good problem for me to have, where you're concerned!
These days, I'm also a guest lecturer in design at Syracuse University London. Because apparently, once a design nerd, always a design nerd.
I believe great brand design should make people feel something.
So I ask a lot of questions, feeling all my clients out as a human being before any work begins.
I know how to listen intently and use a combination of gut instinct, innate design knowledge and hours of research to tease out a brand that just feels right. Because anyone can slap together a logo and call it a day. But great branding is about so much more than just making things look pretty.
When I work with you, you’re getting a brain filled with twenty years of design theory and practice – and it doesn’t stop ideating on fresh inspiration until the project is well and truly over (which is sometimes never – I love me a retainer client!)
Hands up: I'm not a trend-chaser
With twenty years of experience under my belt, I've seen plenty of design fads come and go. Instead of chasing what's hot right now, I build brands designed to last – grounded in experience and a deep understanding of what actually works in your industry.
Creating cohesive brand identities that work across every touchpoint is second-nature to me – we can thank my big-brand background for that. From shelves to shop windows to landing pages, my design brain is always thinking about Brands In The Wild: where your brand will live once it’s off the moodboard and out in the big wide world – or world wide web.
First, we march.
Then comes the bloom.
My process isn't like everyone else's, and that's entirely the point.
I believe in designing for where your brand will live, not just how it will look. I can easily visualise an entire brand suite of assets, not just what you ask for.
And, when we’re done, I’ll only leave you alone if you want me to (sad face).
The most common thing I hear from clients is that I feel like an extension of their team and am as invested in their success as they are. Which is all pretty true – my clients are some of the most thoughtful, driven, focused and seriously wonderful human beings. So of course I want to stick around!
Design roots stretching from New England to London via NYC
Originally from leafy New England, I love to travel to new places in Europe (now that we live here) as well as playing tourist in all the amazing London neighbourhoods on my doorstep. You’ll often find me drinking a coffee at my favourite local cafe and walking around our nearby commons, with my two little boys and one big guy (two sons and a husband) in tow.
I have zero sense of direction but love to draw maps. I like to ask questions. I take copious notes in my dot-grid sketchbook with only a black pen (never blue). I drink one coffee a day (and maybe a second on those days I wanna live life on the edge). And, as someone who lived in New York for almost 12 years, my walking speed is fast even when I'm not in a hurry/overcaffeinated. However, I can easily be stopped in my tracks when I see something worth stopping for…
That’s why my iPhone library is brimming with THE most random of random designs from out and about: photos of storefront signage, floral colour combinations from nature, and fonts on napkins I couldn't resist snapping. I'm constantly building up inspiration that finds its way into every project.
Ready for branding that's consciously different?
If you're a thoughtful business owner who wants to do things a little bit differently – and you're ready for a creative partner who'll be as invested in your success as you are – let's talk.
Because the best brands don’t just land in your lap. They're consciously cultivated.
